Wig Bills
Maggie's Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan is working with state legislators to encourage insurance companies to cover the cost of wigs for children like any other prosthetic. There are 7 other states that have passed bills providing insurance coverage for children's wigs and Michigan is not one of them. This is more than hair; it's about a child's well-being emotionally, socially and psychologically.
In 2024, we have been advocating at the Lansing level to reintroduce our wig bills again. A special thanks to Robert Kennedy of Capitol Affairs who is assisting us and to Senator Kevin Hertel & Senator Paul Wojno who collaboratively introduced Senate Bill 774 (Medicaid/CSHCS-Children's Special Health Care Services) and Senate Bill 775 (Private Insurance) in an effort to secure coverage. The bills are pending at the Health Policy Committee at this time. Please follow our website for updates as they become available on this important issue affecting the children of our communities. In the meantime, Robert has helped us secure an enhancement grant to defray some of the costs of providing wigs to the children of Michigan.
