Biography for Maggie Varney, Wigs 4 Kids Founder & CEO

Maggie Varney, founder and CEO of Wigs 4 Kids, has been in the beauty industry for 40 years. She is a successful business owner and entrepreneur for 22 years.

As a Michigan certified technician of the national

Look Good Feel Better Adult and Teen Program for over 20 years, Maggie volunteers her time and talent to teach cancer patients how to deal with the appearance related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.  For her work and dedication she was awarded the 2003 Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.

Through her volunteering in the Look Good Feel Better program, Maggie noticed a need to help young people and families in their struggle with health challenges causing hair loss which led to the founding of Wigs 4 Kids in October, 2003.  Wigs 4 Kids provides wigs, fitting & cutting, products and an education on how to maintain their new hair prosthetic at no charge.

In 2010, Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center & Salon opened the doors to further assist the children of Michigan.   In the new center, Wigs 4 Kids also offers emotional, psychological and social support where kids can participate in art and music therapy, nutrition and social groups with other children in an affirming setting.

Maggie Varney has received the “Champions Award” from the Optimist Club and was selected as a “Woman who makes Magic.”  She was honored by the Detroit News as a

“Michiganian of the Year” in 2009.  Maggie most recently has been inducted into the Macomb County Foundation Hall of Fame to be recognized for the year 2011, and was chosen by Art Van to be a recipient of the 2011 Art Van Hope Award. Maggie continues to be an exemplary active member of the community.
